Besides the park has buffaloes, warthogs, zebras, gazelles, impala, reedbuck, oryx, topi, eland. Predators are represented by lions, hyenas, leopards, cheetah and hunting dogss.

Over 400 species of birds have been recorded in Nyerere National Park. . Among the species to be found are mourning doves, Fly Catchers, Wablers, Pin tailed Whydahs, Eagles (Matial, Verreaux) Storks (Open-billed, Shoe-bill, Gonoreks (Papyrus and black headed), Pelilcans (Great White and Pink-backed) etc. Flocks of flamingoes are resident in the crater lakes.
