Detailed Program

Day1/ Kigali to Nyungwe Forest

We pick you from your hotel in the morning and drive to Nyungwe forest National Park. Nyungwe is famous for its primates- 13 species in total. On the way tour Nyanza King’s Palace. Have lunch at Butare and proceed to Nyungwe forest. Overnight Gisakura Guest House/ Nyungwe Forest Lodge/ Nyungwe Forest view Lodge B/L/D (Attractions along the way include the cathedrals of Kabugayi and Butare, Kamageri’s Rock. Note that the tour of King’s palace at Nyanza and Butre Museum is optional. This is because normally it will cost you very little money to enter like say USD 20.00)

Day2/ Tracking Chimps

Early in the morning drive to Uwinka to track chimps. After tracking drive back to Gisakura for lunch. In Afternoon you are free. You can tour the tea factory, go for a canopy walk or tour Cyangugu in Lake Kivu. Overnight- Gisakura Guest House/ Nyungwe Forest Lodge/ Nyungwe View Lodge ( Visits to tea factory and tour of Cyangugu are free. A fee is required for canopy walk. This is optional and you can decide to have it or not. In that case you will pay directly if you decide for canopy walk)

Day3/ Drive to Gisenyi

Breakfast and drive to Ruhengeri via Butare, Gitarama, Ngororero and Mukamira. Have a brief tour of genocide memorial of Murambi just outside Nyungwe forest. This is a very beautiful road with lots of photography opportunities. On the way you will be shown the home of former President Habyirimana who died on plane crash triggering the genocide. Overnight at La Palmes/ Gorilla View Lodge/ Sabyinyo Lodge BLD

Day4/Gisenyi-Ruhengeri

Morning spent at Gisenyi. Lunch at your hotel. Afternoon drive to Ruhengeri arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at your hotel/ lodge

Day5/Gorilla Tracking

After breakfast and drive to park headquarters for briefing and guide allocation. Drive to trail heads and trek up the mountain for another memorable experience with gorillas. Return to the base hotel for lunch. In the afternoon drive to Gisenyi (Rubavu) on the shores of Lake Kivu. Overnight Garden Palms Hotel/ Lake Kivu Serena (B/L/D)

Day6/ Ruhengeri To Kigali Airport

Drive to Kigali. Have a city tour. Tour the markets, the curio shops and have lunch. In the afternoon tour the genocide memorial of Gisozi. In the evening transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.
