Kogelo, Nyang'oma K'ogelo, birth place of Barack Obama Husein Snr. Nyangoma Kogelo (K'ogelo), the birth place of Hussein Obama Snr, the father of Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America. It is located in Siaya District, Nyanza Province of Western Kenya, on the shores of Lake Victoria. As of Wednesday, 5th of Nov 2008, Kogelo is not just a village but an international melting pot. The international press gathered here to witness for themselves the celebrations following the election of Barack Hussein Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America. Before the emergence of Senator Barack Obama, Kogelo village had only a primary school. As the US campaign gained momentum, Kogelo (K'ogelo) underwent one of the many overnight transformations. One morning people woke up to find a police camp at the homestead of Sarah Obama, the maternal grandmother of President Obama. As the election campaign progressed and victory was definite, electricity posts were laid towards Kogelo. By the time Obama was announced as the winner, villagers had electricity. Further down the page is a proposed tour package of 11 days Kogelo including visits to Samburu, Buffalo Springs, Sweet Waters, Lake Nakuru and Maasai Mara at USD 4000 PP sharing for two. Will one be able to meet the celebrated Mama Obama?- Answer- Unlike USA where you need an appointment to meet someone, in rural Kenya you need no appointment. Lady Sarah will meet you if she is available. Besides lady Sarah, you will talk with the real relatives of President Obama and ask any question you desire. Remember to be sensitive to their privacy. Obama Visits Kenya The first visit to Kenya of Barack Obama was a private affair. He was met at the airport by his sister Auma with a battered Volkswagen. He would sleep on a couch in his sister's house. The journey to Kogelo (K'ogelo) was by train and then Matatu (public transport in Kenya) where he shared space with chicken. He even had a taste of parenthood as sometimes tired parents would place babies on his laps. This trip was an eye opener to this son of four continents. (Remember born in USA, early childhood in Asia, an African father and a Western Education) . He discovered his father and experienced the community warmth enjoyed by the peoples of Kenya. On arrival he was met by his immediate family. This was a complete contrast to his second visit as a senator. He not only arrived by a private jet, but he was met by who is who in Kenya. He had a scheduled visit to President Mwai Kibaki, Raila Odinga and other senior officials. His visit to Kogelo was by a motorcade. Kogelo was a carnivore of sorts with celebrations. However his lecture of corruption did not go down well with some government officials. See
