The best time for wildlife viewing is during the dry seasons from June to October and January to February. Animals gather around permanent water sources like the Galana River and Aruba Dam, making wildlife easier to spot.

Tsavo's iconic "Red Elephants" get their signature reddish color from rolling in and spraying themselves with the park's vibrant, red dust and volcanic soil for sun and insect protection.

Tsavo East is approximately 240 km to 340 km from Nairobi (a 4 to 5-hour drive depending on the entry gate) and roughly 160 km from Mombasa (a 3-hour drive to Voi Gate), making it ideal for coastal beach-and-safari combinations.

Key access gates include Mtito Andei Gate (240 km from Nairobi), Tsavo Gate (290 km), Manyani Gate (307 km), Voi Gate (340 km / primary park HQ), and Sala Gate (accessible from Malindi).

Must-see natural landmarks include the Lugard Falls, Mudanda Rock, Aruba Dam, Kanderi Swamp, and the Yatta Plateau—one of the world's longest prehistoric lava flows.
